De Japanners interneren de Europese inwoners van Hollandia; het grootste deel wordt later via Biak naar Ambon afgevoerd. Voor Japan is Hollandia een belangrijke marinebasis vanwege de beschutting die de Humboldt baai biedt. Ook nemen ze in de omgeving van het nabijgelegen Sentani-meer 3 vliegvelden in gebruik.
